I’ve been in a downward spiral this week. I can’t wait to be alone – I feel like I haven’t had a moment by myself all weekend. On the other hand, I’m afraid of what I’ll do if I do have time alone.
Part of the problem is I am having terrible tooth pain. I have a tooth with an old filling and the filling cracked. This same problem happened in another tooth a couple of years ago. At that time my dentist said I needed a new filling, I said, fine, and he did it. But then the tooth was in extreme pain and I ended up needing a root canal and a crown. I swore I would never let anyone touch my teeth again.
But I switched to a new dentist, and she is very nice and seems very intelligent and she has been telling me I needed to have a new filling in this second tooth. I finally let her do it two weeks ago. Now my tooth is in extreme pain. I’ve been taking a lot of advil and it helps, but only for a couple of hours.
The pain spreads to my jaw and my head and triggers migraines. I’ve just been miserable all week and I know I don’t have any choices here. Endure the pain, or have the tooth fixed. It sucks.
I’m also still feeling the effects of last week’s therapy session and it’s almost time for this week’s session. Maybe I’ll feel twice as awful next week. Looking forward to that – NOT!

I hope your tooth feels better–that is the worst pain!
I’m not sure if this is helpful….when I was having lots of dental work done that I could not afford out of pocket, I took out a Care Credit credit line for medical/dental/and such type things. It was 0 interest for 12 months, then the interest skyrockets…but, I am/was very grateful for it!

tooth pain is the worst. unbearable. i’ve had many root canals and crowns.
would the care credit thing work for you? it’s so important to get the work done, so you don’t suffer this way. would your dentist let you do a payment plan?
how are you doing today?
with the therapist, keep doing what you’re doing. i’ll say it again – you are very, very brave.

Visiting a dentist sucks just as much. Unfortunately it is an inevitability.
Good Luck.

Thanks everyone. And imaginenamaste – great idea about the credit line. My mother told me today that she did that when she needed dental work done last year. I’m going to look into it.
At this point I don’t think I need a root canal, I think I want to try other options. I need a few more fillings replaced and I don’t want to end up with root canals in all of them. I think there is another reason why the tooth hurts.
Thanks for your support! And thank you to whoever invented ibuprofen.
