Weekend Update

I’ve been taking a break from thinking for the past few days. It’s been nice. Things are moving along, nothing bad is happening, my family is healthy, the weather has been pretty good except for a major downpour yesterday which luckily happened after my run, and it is nice to not be obsessing about anything.

This morning on the hotline a 15 year old girl called and she said she wanted to cut. I’m not sure I was helpful to her. This was the first child I talked to on the hotline, and the first cutter. She was very sweet and I hope I helped in some small way. I won’t ever know though. I’m glad she called.

  1. It’s nice when we can get out of our head for awhile. Obsessing is no fun.

You’re a very compassionate person. I’m sure you were very helpful to the girl who called in.

  2. Agreeing with Tiger. I hurt myself off and on for more then a decade starting at age 11. Sometimes it’s just the talking to a human being that helps, sometimes it’s just the time between when the impulse comes on and when you can leave it be. Both together can be especially powerful. I called a few hotlines, over the years, but always hung up as soon as someone answered. I’m glad she called, and I’m glad you answered.

  3. sometimes it so good to have nothingness time.
I agree with tiger as well… people who are willing to listen actively are often more useful than professionals who are uninterested yet have educational training.

  4. Glad you got some down time from thinking :) Always a good thing.

I’m impressed by your work on the hotline. I’m glad the girl called also – I’m thinking after that first call, she may call again when necessary.

I started walking this weekend – limited myself to a couple of miles and 30ish minutes. Felt good! Now I need to make myself get up early to walk during the week.

    Take care.

  5. Thank you all for your encouragement about the girl who called the hotline. I’m still thinking about her. I think I’m going to call my supervisor and see if the girl called again. It’s hard when people call and then we never know what happened to them.

OLJ – great job on the walking! Good for you! It’s hard to get up early, especially when it’s cold out. But you can do it, I know you can.

  6. No more walking at this point :( I really need to get up earlier in the morning.

Share with us if you hear anything else about the girl.

    Take care.

  7. OLJ – it’s ok, I know the feeling of missing a walk/run because of lack of time. I didn’t get to do one today, and I have to do it tomorrow because I have a race on Sunday! I can’t up early either.
