Quicksand and a Mandala

This morning at 6am I had a dream. I was running on a trail in a park near my home and I fell into quicksand. I screamed really loud (in my dream, not out loud) and woke myself up. I wonder what this dream says? I’m getting really sucked into my running? Hmmm, what would Freud say?

And here is a project I worked on last week. It’s very difficult for me to meditate by just sitting still doing nothing. I made this mandala out of paper glued onto foamcore. I wanted to make it out of stained glass (I used to do a lot of stained glass mosaics, but I lost my inspiration), but I was afraid of working with broken glass (self injury, etc). I still had to use an exacto knife, but it was ok. It took me a few days to make this and it was very meditative. My sister says I must be a kinesthetic meditator. Is there such a thing?

It’s supposed to represent the earth. All around the outside is chaos, lightening, etc. Then the green crust of the earth. Brown dirt under that, and blue oceans and rivers around the whole thing. Then it gets hotter and hotter as you get to the center, with a few places where the hot insides burst through onto the outside. Kind of like me I suppose.

The mandala is beautiful! I bet there’s such a thing as a kinesthetic meditator. It makes sense – some people meditate to music, some people feel worry beads, etc.

    Harriet -
Beautiful work. This inspires me – I might be able to construct something like this. I have not heard of mandala – when I first saw you mention it, I thought of the game (which actually I think is mancala??)

Dreams are funny things – I remember two things from last night – one which woke me up was about a family leaving their house in the dead of night – mom, dad, two kids. They left behind the mother/grandmother. Don’t have to dig too deep for the meaning of that one. The second dream memory was just a snippet – putting on dark brown eyeshadow. Don’t know where that one came from.

    Take care,

Very beautiful and creative! I love the colors. I can see how it would be meditative to do. I’m not too creative in this manner but I love seeing other people’s creations. Thank you for showing us yours.

Love the creativity and the symbolism. Looks like a mosaic and I was thinking “no way is that paper”. Hidden depths hey? (or not so hidden)

Interesting dream. I’m not sure what Freud would say but I know what I would say! I’m always interested in the mode of travelling in dreams. Cars, bicycles, walking, running etc, which I see as our means of travelling through the world. So one interpretation might look at what running means to you emotionally and how travelling too quickly could lead you to be bogged down sometimes? But it’s late here so I don’t have my dream analysis hat on. I’ll have to sleep on this one ;-)

    Hi Harriet,
I like the idea of being a “kinesthetic meditator”. I think I am one of those. Your Mandala is beautiful. Can I borrow the “Kinesthetic meditator” idea…I have a good idea for it.

Thanks everyone. I don’t think it’s really anything special, it was more a process thing than a project thing, you know?

And of course anyone can borrow my idea! I’d love to see anyone’s creation.
